Soro is built atop a giant mining shaft in the foothills of the Kaitaeki mountains on Eirah island in Gael. The city started as a research camp perched on the edge of a perfectly square, open mining shaft 470 feet across. The shaft descends 6,300 feet before splitting into a complex series of perfectly carved tunnels that are assumed to have been used for mining. It took 30 years of research just to map out the tunnels that stretch throughout the Kaitaeki mountains. During that time, mining operations developed to fuel Gael's research industry. The city grew, surrounding the open mining shaft. Elevators were carved into the sides of the shaft, and eventually the city itself spread down the sides of the shaft, carving buildings, mining operations, and storage facilities directly into the stone walls
