The Great Mountains are sometimes referred to simply as “the Sliabh” on account of this federation of Carragh clans. Spanning from the north of Aimsir all the way to the south, this federation includes all types of Carragh. Typically this federation is largely unconcerned with the happenings in the world “down the mountain”, with one noted exception. They take great interest in the mining operations of Reithe, Koraha, and Yuanen.

Cities

  • Athair - The largest Carragh city in the world
  • Brahamanda - Canyon city far to the southern end of the mountains
  • Dearthair - Southern twin city in central Sliabh
  • Deirfiur - Northern twin city in central Sliabh
  • Fainle - City of the Tawa Sike in the central mountains
  • Gaineamh - Located at the far northern end of the mountain range
  • Sleta - Small port city on the far south end of the range

History

The Sliabh mountains are the birth place of the Carragh and the territory of the present day nation of Sliabh. The Jan Anpa, Jan Namako, and Jan Pimeja Carragh tribes sprung up in the northern range, and founded the cities of Deirfiur and Dearthair, and Athair, respectively. Shortly after, the Jan Sona clan founded the city of Gaineamh in the far northern reaches of the Sliabh. As the humans in the valleys adjacent to the mountains expanded, interactions between the two races began to increase. The Carragh typically avoided interactions with the outside world as much as possible

In the Iron Age, two new Carragh clans emerged, the first was the Tawa Sike, which represented a division among the existing clans, a portion of each clan participating in an exodus, heading south to found the city of Fainle and much later, the city of Brahamanda. At the same time, new Carragh were being born in the southern end of the mountains, which formed the Jan Seli clan, establishing the city of Sleta

Shortly after the initiation of the Blood Wars, the Jan Sona clan emerged and the Carragh of the Sliabh mountains formed a defensive alliance in the hopes that it would deter any incursions into the mountains. Their strategy worked, and they were able to remain neutral through the entire Age of Blood. Throughout the first two Ages of Balance, Sliabh remained very isolated, content to ignore the events of the outside world, including the suffering of the Lili Mute Carragh clan

In the Third Age of Balance, the Carragh have slowly started to become more involved in the outside world, though outsiders have little insight as to what drove this shift

Timeline

Government and laws

Political structure within Sliabh is extremely fragmented, and almost all power is concentrated at the clan level. What few laws exist are usually very specific, and vary from clan to clan. The harmony of the Carragh makes administrative requirements extremely low, and most laws exist for the minority of non Carraghs that live in the mountains. Clan leaders arbitrate in instances where it is necessary, and their decisions are usually final

Society and culture

Religion
Spirituality with Sliabh is similar to that of all Carragh, revolving around adherence to the personal dictates of the song within oneself, living in harmony with the music of your life and also harmony with the other members of your clan. Carragh value individuality, honesty, and loyalty. Anyone outside your clan is often treated with sharp indifference, though there are weaker bonds of unity flowing between all Carragh

Dress
Most Carragh in Sliabh do not wear clothing, though those that go abroad or have lived outside Sliabh will sometimes wear clothing. Clothing is most common in Athair, which is the most diverse city in Sliabh. When they do wear clothing, it is often simple robes or swaths of cloth hung off the shoulders

Food
The Sliabh diet is a simple one, as Carragh eat only to sustain themselves, and often do not take particular pleasure in the act. Common food includes minerals, oils, mushrooms and lichens, and silty water. Meals are often a mix of whatever food is available, chopped up into small pieces and then shoveled unceremoniously into their mouths. One except to this rule is an alcoholic beverage called Slush, made from mushrooms. Few outsiders develop a taste for the substance, which resembles muddy water, tastes about as good, and is extremely powerful. The Slush is extremely potent for non-Carragh

Music and Arts
Sliabh musical instruments is restricted to percussive and woodwinds. The compositions are usually rhythmic and trance-like, and are used to bring both the practitioner and the audience into closer harmony with the music in all things. Some Carragh devote their lives to expressing themselves artistically, expressing their values and emotions through any number artistic modes. Artistic endeavors are the rare exception to harmony of the Carragh, where contrary opinions and ideas are tolerated and even encouraged
