Salann is built in the center of the salt flats on the western shores of Naer. The city is built on a large slab of stone and earth, raising it above the water line during high tide. As the tides surge, the flats quickly become flooded, converting the city into an island. The water levels are rarely more than a few feet high, but it severely restricts movement outside the city. Rather than use boats, the residents opted to build a sprawling network of wooden and earthen docks to allow passage during the high tides.

As the tides recede, they leave behind a thin layer of salt, which the residents collect. The salt is then taken via aqueduct to the capitol port city of Ba where it is exported by boat to the wider world. Salt is Naer's main export and is the primary engine of this relatively small nation's economy

Salann's buildings are constructed from the soft clay found just under the salt layer of the flats, most of which was supplied by the clay dredged up by the construction of the aqueduct that connects the city to the capitol. The buildings are white washed with a plaster made of salt and clay, while the roofs are painted a dusty red color with dyes made from the seaweed brought in by the tide. The city streets are shaded from the intense heat and light of the flats by a canvas made from loosely weaved seaweed. Despite the city's smaller size, the wealth brought in by the salt trade, combined with the trade pipeline with the capitol, sustains the staggering number and variety of shops in the city. The city's penchant for excessive spending draws a very strange element from across the planet. You can find things in Salann that you wont see anywhere else on the planet
