Sakuran

[settlement]

Pronunciation: (sah-KOO-rawn)
Continent: Aimsir
Nation: Fiadh
Related Geography: Faulan mountains
Coordinates: 37° S, 81° W

This remote monastery is perched high in the Faulan mountains, far above the coastal populations of Fiadh. Sakuran is connected to Fiadh by way of a somewhat treacherous path that splits off from the Faulan Pass at the ruins of the Hitan Bulwark. Winding through the mountains, the path eventually crosses the famous hanging bridges, a serious of seven long rope bridges that must be crossed in order to enter the monastery

The monastery itself boasts impressive construction, perched on the side of a deep gorge. The monastery typically supports over nine hundred permanent residents, including the most renowned pyromancer monks following the Path of Peace. Sakuran is the birthplace of several martial art styles which espouse non violence, all of which are still taught at the monastery

Originally, Sakuran was established in the Second Age as a refuge for the Lili Mute carragh in search of relief from the persecution they faced throughout Aimsir. The monastery was founded by a travelling monk from Fiadh who encountered the carragh on a pilgrimage. Under the monk's tutelage, the Lili Mute used the martial arts to help develop their mental abilities and give them much needed self defense
