Ability check probabilities


When rolling an ability check against a player or NPC, you roll:

Attacker: Base Attack Bonus + Attribute Bonus + 3d6
Defender: Base Defense Bonus + Attribute Bonus + 3d6

Ties go to the attacker

The table below allows you to see what the chances are of winning this roll as the attacker, depending on how much higher or lower your combined bonuses are (Base Attack Bonus and Attribute Bonus)

Attacker wins 94% 90% 86% 80% 72% 63% 55% 46% 36% 28% 20% 15% 10%
Defender wins 6% 10% 14% 20% 28% 37% 45% 54% 64% 72% 80% 85% 90%

Note: These statistics are simulated with 20,000 iterations, and are therefore approximate

Example:
You are the attacker and you want to roll an opposed strength check against a target defender:
Your Base Attack Bonus is 3 and your Strength Modifier is 4
Your target's Base Defense Bonus is 3 and it's Strength Modifier is 2
Thus, your combined bonus is 2 higher than your opponent's, so your odds of winning the check are 72%
