Son to Ursula dannongrey and the late Trenton dannongrey, Eathan helps his mother run the Academy Refectory, mostly with cooking and cleaning, but occasionally with meal and provisioning planning. Each week when the food supply ship docks at the Academy, Eathan enthusiatically helps the sailors and peppers them with questions about their voyages, dreaming of taking to the galactic currents in search of adventures

Eathan plans to enter the academy as soon as he is old enough, but until then, he spends his free time learning what he can, secretly sitting in on lectures. Whenever a student shows promise or expertise, he is sure to pop up unexpectedly with several questions. The masters won't directly help him out of fear of Ursula, who does not approve of Eathans plans for the future, and the students will often get a stern warning not to help him if the subject comes up
