Perched upon the great chasm, the city of Cead lies on the shores of Shinen island, in the Istigh seas. The city's main purpose is to serve as a base of operations for diving expeditions in the Great Chasm. The city has an extensive network of floating docks that extend over three miles out over the chasm. The city itself sits on the very edge of the coast at a spot where the sea floor drops off straight into the depths. The city also serves as a restocking point for several of the huge floating stations that slowly float on sea's surface, providing additional launching points for expeditions

The chasm itself is biologically diverse and provides an abundance of useful materials, including metals. Additionally, shipwrecks from ancient battles in the Age of Blood often hide long forgotten treasures

The inhabitants of the city are almost all tied to the diving operations, either directly or indirectly, and this connection makes for a tight-knit community that regards itself as transcending national affiliation
