Astronomy

For the profession, see Astronomer

Many terrans spend their evenings looking up into the skies, wondering what mysteries the night holds. Others take a more scientific approach, attempting to learn everything they can. The skies they search have much to look at. Terra has two satellites, commonly called moons, which loom large, but the other planets and their moons also feature prominently, waxing and waning as their orbits bring them closer and further from Terra

The study of the sky has exploded with the recent discovery of the telescope, allowing terrans to see unprecedented details.

The information below is written from the perspective of someone on the planet Terra. If you are a player in an Elemental D6 campaign, consider discussing with your GM before exploring beyond this page

Planets of the sol system

Terra
The second planet from Sol, sharing its orbit with Siur. Home to the baumeni, carragh, humans, and ulfar

  • Ceol - A pale red moon in orbit around terra, which appears fairly uniform to the naked eye
  • Eala - A grey and white moon in orbit around terra

Siur
At opposing orbit from Terra, this planet is often nicknamed the “sister”, despite not being visible. Siur's existence is inferred from the orbits of its moons. Siur is the second planet from Sol, along with Terra

  • Cara - This bright moon appears similar to Terra's white moon
  • Fiach - This moon is hard to spot. Dark grey in color, it cannot be seen with the naked eye
  • Fain - This small moon is reddish brown in color

Dearg
Orbited by a disc-shaped ring of asteroids, this planet has a reddish brown color, and is the third planet from Sol. It has no discovered moons

Aisling
A giant swirling ball of gasses, this “planet's” gasses are primarily colored in vibrant and muted blues, purples, and whites. This planet is the closest to Sol and has no discovered moons

Uisce
The farthest planet from Sol, the surface of this planet appears to be covered in ice, having few features. To the naked eye it appears as a white ball with a faint blue tint. Attempts to make further discoveries about the planet have met with limited success

Taisce
The fourth planet from Sol, this planet is heavily fractured. About one fourth of the planet is crumbling, which is easily seen with the naked eye from terra. It has at least 7 moons, though there is much debate about the classification of its moons due do the large amount of debris orbiting this planet

  • Glas - Little is known about this moon except for its distinct green color
  • Carogh - This moon appears as if covered in shadow, a favorite mystery of many astronomers
  • Cnagaire - Careful inspection of this moon reveals a surface covered in large craters
  • Ulcha - Very little is known of ulcha due to the difficulty in spotting it
  • Gealb - A pale yellow moon with a surface similar to terra's Eala
  • Druh - A bright white moon which shines with a powerful brilliance
  • Seabhac - A large moon which appears very similar to terra
