A color map of Aeye

The archipelago that covers the seas between Aimsir and Saoirse, home to several island cities which have a loose sense of unity but are formally city states. Due to rampant piracy in the region, each establishment has its own small naval fleet and an alliance with an outside city or nation

Cities

History

In the early years of Terran history, the islands of Aeye were uninhabited. Furthermore no new life forms have ever been born directly on any of the archipelago's islands. Akkaus began colonizing the islands shortly after they developed shipbuilding. These colonies never developed past primitive villages. These cities were conquered by Sehti'taal in the Age of Honor, one of the few open conflicts in that age. The colonies were included in the country of Yuanen in the Council of Ceilidh

Timeline

  • 52.1M BCE: Akkaus forms first colonies in Aeye
  • 20.7M BCE: Sehti'taal colonizes in the Aeye archipelago
  • 18.5M BCE: Sehti'taal conquers Akkau cities in Aeye
  • 2.0M BCE: Council of Ceilidh ushers in the Age of Balance, Aeye colonies are part of Yuanen

Government and laws

The cities of Aeye are organized as city states, having no overarching governing body. Each city has a different organizational structure, from Bhiain's experiments with different forms of government, to Aois with its complete lack of any order. Ia has a Governor which resembles a mayor, and Cead has a ruling council that votes on issues of governance. In general the islands are very friendly, and visitors are often forgiven minor offenses due to the complex and ever changing legal landscape

Society and culture

Religion
Though the 'nation' of Aeye has no predominant or even prevalent religion, some individuals do practice. The closest form of organized religion can be found in the city of Ia. The majority of the citizens follow the Path of the Sword, aspiring to achieve perfection though beauty and discipline, of the body and the mind. They rigorously train their martial skills, and tirelessly devote themselves to artistic expression. Some of the world's great art has come from natives of this city

Values
The values of this region vary as widely as is possible, though all citizens do share a respect for life and an indomitable desire for freedom. You will rarely catch them imposing any restriction or inconvenience on another, especially when travelling abroad

Dress
While political and other cultural values differ, the clothing of the region is surprisingly uniform. Clothing is worn loosely and sparsely, and what is worn is simple, and often un-dyed. Footwear, even for soldiers and workers is almost always a sandal, or even going without footwear entirely. Soldiers of Ia wear cloth wraps on their hands and feet

Food
Every city with Aeye is a port city and their trading relationship with surrounding nations is very strong. The islands produce large quantities of tropical fruits and vegetables, such as bananas, pineapple, and kiwi, which quickly find their way to tables across the northern hemisphere. As a result, Aeye enjoys delicacies from across the planet, though particularly from the northern hemisphere

Music and Arts
Ia and Bhiain are the main producers of art from the region. Ia focuses on high art and flawless execution of artistic and musical performance. Bhiain is concerned with emotional expression and transparency, as well as what they call “practical art”

Flora and fauna

  • Bluebells - Found on the coastlines of some of the islands in the archipelago
