The rules on this page apply to solid wall defenses which includes:
  * Wall - Petramancer
  * Wall of Ice - Hydromancer

Other solid structure defenses such as //Slab// and //Stone Armor// have their own rules. Walls that are not solid, such as //Wall of Air// and //Wall of Fire// also have separate rules

Improving the hit point formula of a wall with talent points follows the [[dice bonus|cost progression]] of a damage formula

===== Attacks =====

Attacks that would intersect the wall automatically hit the wall, therefore an attack roll is not yet necessary. Instead, simply roll damage. Each hex of wall (segment) has the amount of hit points rolled when the wall is created. Damage to each segment of wall is persistent, and if the total damage dealt exceeds the segment's hit points, the segment is destroyed. Excess damage continues along the original trajectory. If it intersects another segment of wall the excess damage is dealt to the next wall segment

If an attack breaks through wall segments and makes it to a target creature, then resolve the attack roll. If the attack hits, whatever damage was not absorbed by a wall is applied to the creature

===== Pillars =====
Instead of a wall, the binder can instead raise pillars in each segment instead of a solid wall. These pillars provide [[combat#cover]]. A creature can move between the pillars, though it costs double the normal amount of movement to do so. Creating a wall in this way weakens the structural integrity of the wall, remove 2d6 from the hit point formula when doing so


===== Strengthening a Wall =====
A binder may use a talent that would create a wall to strengthen an existing wall. This requires that the wall is the same element as the talent used. The binder rolls the hit point formula and adds the hit points to the current hit points of the wall they are strengthening. If the target wall is larger than the binder is capable of creating, the wall is only strengthened in an area equal to the largest wall the binder could create


===== Natural or Constructed Walls =====
Naturally occurring walls or walls constructed outside the heat of battle may or may not be stronger than a wall created in the moment. Treat attacks against these walls according to these rules, including the ability to strengthen the wall

===== Trenches =====
Skills that grant the ability to create a wall which is governed by the rules on this page can also use that move to create a trench in the same shape as the wall, provided the proper medium exists (ice, earth). The depth of the trench can be up to half the height of the wall that would be created if used normally
